Blinking and Tipping with Malcolm Gladwell

After reading about Malcolm Gladwell, the author of the Tipping Point, in the New York Times, and, this January in Fast Company, then to have him show up on our tiny island for a book tour stop was too much. I had to go.

So, on March 7th at 7:30 we squeezed into the Eagle Harbor Bookstore to find our reserve seats gone and standing room only. (Oh, to have a New Yorker magazine writer visit our island!) Malcolm is a humorous speaker. I read his latest book Blink the night before and found it a simple observation that our first impressions are complex and generally accurate except, as he points out toward the end of the book, incredibly biased and we need to be aware of that. It seemed most people in the room had the same fustration as I did: it was a well written report, but without earth-shattering conclusions (or any conclusions). Malcolm said he wanted to start conversations on the topic. Hmmm.
